Co-founded by noted Roslindale residents Glenn and Janice Williams, The Roslindale Arts Alliance is a nonprofit organization that contributes to the culture of the community while promoting local artists.
The Alliance has recently announced the availability of three student art scholarships (each worth $500) to be awarded this coming May. Any Boston student in grades 3 through high school is eligible to apply.
The scholarships were made possible through fund raising efforts during last year’s 20th anniversary celebration of the popular “It’s All About Arts” live cable television show, hosted by the legendary musician Glenn Williams.
Now in its 21st year, the show is a media outlet that showcases the local art scene of the Greater Boston area. Each Monday from 6-7 p.m., artists and art organizations have the opportunity to tell their stories to Glenn and the viewers of BNN-TV, Channel 9.
Last October Glenn was quoted in an interview with The Boston Voyager: “My wife, Janice and I started the Roslindale Arts Alliance in 1997 to have an organization behind the television show we were beginning on Boston Neighborhood Network…. [which] has featured over 1000 guests…. We [have also] initiated Roslindale Open Studios where artists display their work across the Roslindale Community as well as the Roslindale Porch Fest where this year over 100 bands and musicians will be performing….”
To be considered for the $500 art scholarships, student applicants must send a short video (mp4 format) of their art and tell why they love it to: firstname.lastname@example.org. The age category of each applicant must be indicated as follows: Category 1-Grades 3, 4, 5; Category 2-Grades 6, 7, 8; and Category 3-High School. The deadline for entries is Friday, May 18, 2018.
