Gathering Commemorates Opening of the First New Hospital in Boston in over 30 Years
While the recent events in Boston have impacted millions of lives, many of those cheering at the finish line could not have known that in an instant they would be beneficiaries of Boston’s world leading health care services. Among those providers is the new Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in the Charlestown Navy Yard, a state-of-the-art facility with an unmatched patient-centered level of care. Nearly 500 friends and supporters of the Spaulding Community, along with leaders such as Mayor Thomas M Menino, gathered on Saturday, April 20th, to honor the people of Boston and commemorate the new hospital which now serves as a place of healing and hope for so many.
The evening included tours of the new facility and a gala dinner under a grand tent. Pre-ceding the dinner was a moment of silence, followed by recognition of Spaulding clinicians among those who were first responders Marathon Monday. The Boston Pops concluded the speaking program with a moving “Stars & Stripes Forever,” followed by a rousing sing-along of “Sweet Caroline” that was led by the dance band Soho – all celebrating the indomitable spirit of the people of Boston.
