Country Music & Comedy Greats Perform to Benefit Home Base

Country music, comedy, patriotism, and healing the invisible wounds of war were on full display at Mission Gratitude, the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program’s first benefit concert presented by State Street Corporation on September 23, 2013 at Symphony Hall.

The benefit concert and reception raised $1.3 million for Home Base clinical care to help Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and families recover from Post-Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brian Injury.

Some 2,500 attendees, including military service members, were treated to performances by The Band Perry, Big $ Rich, Sarah Silverman, Darrell Hammond, Cassadee Pope, The Henningsens, and Angie Johnson. Rita Wilton, Doris Kearns Goodwin, as well as Red Sox legend Tim Wakefield and Bruins legend Ray Bourke made special appearances at the concert. The nation’s newest Medal of Honor recipient, SSG Ty Carter, was a special guest. Other highlights included video messages from First Lady Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden, and General Joseph Dunford, Jr. who is leading forces in Afghanistan.
