Wine Tasting Event at Gardner Museum for Sustainer Level Patrons

Spring is a great time to become a member at the Gardner Museum. On Wednesday, May 12, all patrons at the Sustainer level and above are invited for an evening of art, wine, food, music, and more at the museum's inaugural "Vino + Verde" wine tasting event, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Set alongside the flowering courtyard, laden with blue and white hydrangeas, the event will showcase the fresh flavors of a selection of white wines from around the world, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Albariño, and Silvaner grapes from France, Chile, Austria, and California. (In order to protect the artworks, only white wine is served in the museum.)

Trevor Nelson of Classic Wine Imports will be on hand to share his expertise and insights into the art of wine, encouraging attendees to test their palates with the crisp flavors of spring: white flower, melon, honeysuckle, wet stone, and lightly-toasted oak.

The wines will be paired with small plates from The Gardner Café, specially designed by Chef Peter Crowley to celebrate the season and complement the wines.

Guests will enjoy dishes including spring pea soup with fennel pollen; Szechuan pepper-dusted foie gras with green apple and soy; crispy cod cakes; and Australian lamb loin with chick pea mousse, among other culinary delights.

Throughout the evening, museum staff will be on hand to entice attendees into the galleries with informal talks on Isabella Stewart Gardner, the history of entertaining at the museum, and the current special exhibition "Modeling Devotion: Terracotta Sculpture of the Italian Renaissance."

Reservations are required as tickets will not be sold at the door. For more information, call 617-391-3949 or visit www.gardnermuseum.org.

Castle Island Walk to Benefit Burn Foundation

Boston Blazers' "Dangerous" Dan Dawson and Mix 104.1FM's Sue Brady will join burn survivors and supporters, firefighters and families from across New England at the inaugural "New England Walk for Burn Awareness," on Sunday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at Castle Island in South Boston.

The Walk fees include tee shirts and snacks. Children under 11 are free but must still register. Families are invited to participate and form teams. Pre-registration is encouraged and prizes will be awarded for top teams and fundraisers. For more information, visit www.active.com/donate/iaffburnshriners or contact Melissa Hurley-Sullivan at 857-362-1943.

Shriners Hospitals for Children and the International Association of Fire Fighters Burn Foundation know firsthand the emotional and physical harm that burn injuries cause, and the important role education and awareness can play in preventing burn injuries.

The IAFF Burn Foundation is dedicated to burn prevention and education, burn research and improving the quality of life for burn survivors. Created in 1982, the Burn Foundation is one of the largest sources for burn research grants and the sponsor of the annual IAFF Burn Foundation's International Burn Camp, held each fall in Washington, D.C.

This will be a fun day for the family. Besides walking around scenic Castle Island, there will be children's activities, the Shriners clowns, fire trucks to explore, and Boston Blazer activities.

Enjoy!
