Simon & Garfunkel Tanglewood Appearance Cancelled The Simon & Garfunkel tour that had been set for July, and included a July 27 appearance at Tanglewood, has now been postponed indefinitely. The tour, originally set for April and then rescheduled for July, is now on hold as Art Garfunkel continues to recover from a vocal paresis. According to his doctors, Art is expected to make a full recovery, however they cannot predict an exact timeline. Simon & Garfunkel regret any inconvenience this has caused their fans and are looking forward to rescheduling the dates when Art fully recovers. Art says, "I do feel bad about disrupting so many people's plans but, as I continue to mend, I can't yet bring my 'A Game' to a tour, and I would not perform for you with anything less." Tanglewood is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra located in the Berkshire Hills between Lenox and Stockbridge, MA. The Boston Symphony Orchestra performs its first concert of the Tanglewood season on July 9 and closes its portion of the season on August 29, presenting 22 programs throughout the summer. New Music Director for Boston Lyric Opera Boston Lyric Opera announced that David Angus will become the Company's new Music Director effective September 2010, a position that has been vacant for two years. Maestro Angus received critical acclaim for conducting BLO's April 2010 production of Idomeneo, re di Creta. He has extensive experience with a variety of larger and smaller international opera companies and symphony orchestras, making him one of the most respected conductors in the field, and an ideal candidate for this position. "BLO has been fortunate to have many qualified candidates under consideration, including several of our recent guest conductors," said Esther Nelson, BLO's General & Artistic Director. "Our Board and our staff are honored and pleased to welcome David to BLO, and we look forward to re-introducing him to our patrons in his new capacity." "Having a Music Director on staff once again is an exciting indication of the direction Boston Lyric Opera is headed," observed Steven P. Akin, BLO's Chairman of the Board. "It was important to take the necessary time to find someone of David's skill, leadership, and reputation who could support BLO's integral role in Boston's and New England's cultural community, and we are confident in David's ability to exceed that goal." Although guest conductors have already been contracted for BLO's 2010-2011 Season, Mr. Angus will work closely with them and the orchestra to ensure a consistent voice, and he will conduct A Midsummer Night's Dream to close out the Season in April 2011. Enjoy!
