The Scene In and Around Boston . . . Yolanda Cellucci, Boston fashion icon and owner of the former Yolanda's Salon in Waltham, will serve as Honorary Co-Chair of a new fundraising effort at Lasell College, announced Lasell President Michael B. Alexander. Yolanda's renown in the fashion industry will help support the effort, which seeks to build a Center for Creative and Applied Arts on campus and will create a new home for the College's burgeoning Fashion Department. Ms. Cellucci joins Honorary Co-Chairs Thomas and Olivia McDonough, current Lasell parents, and Trustee Emerita Nancy Lawson Donahue '49 in providing leadership for this initiative. This Lasell campaign seeks to raise funds to build the Center, which will create studio space, classrooms, faculty offices, and climate controlled storage for Lasell's Fashion Collection. The Center for Creative and Applied Arts, in conjunction with the Yamawaki Art and Cultural Center, will create an arts complex on campus that will help energize the music, studio art and performing arts programs-historically a strong element of the academic and co-curricular culture at Lasell. "Despite the economic climate, when other colleges may be cutting back, Lasell continues to grow," said President Michael B. Alexander. "This project will support that growth and provide enhancements to the educational programs at Lasell. Yolanda will be a significant boost to this effort." Lasell honored Yolanda at its annual Leadership Recognition Dinner at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum held last fall and showcased several gowns she recently donated to the Lasell Fashion Collection. Those gowns included original designs by Bob Mackie, Oscar de la Renta, and Mary MacFadden. From April 6 though April 16, Lasell will also host "The Art of Fashion: The Yolanda Collection," a retrospective on her life and career including an exhibit of her gowns that are now a part of the Lasell Fashion Collection. The exhibit will be free and open to the public. "Yolanda is a major force in the couture fashion industry, and in Boston. We are proud to have her on board in a leadership role for our fundraising efforts," said Ruth Shuman, vice president for Institutional Advancement. Lasell College recently received a lead gift for this major fundraising effort from Nancy Lawson Donahue. Nancy graduated in 1949 from Lasell with an AS in Fashion (Retail Management). She served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and is currently Trustee Emerita and a member of the President's Advisory Council. The new center will be named in her honor. An innovative educational institution for nearly 160 years, Lasell is an independent For more information about Lasell College, visit www.lasell.edu.
