The Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame is sponsoring a "Gala Awards Ceremony and Luncheon" hosted by WBZ 1030's Jordan Rich, inducting twenty of Massachusetts' most popular and respected radio and television broadcasters into the Hall of Fame on Wednesday, September 16 at 12 p.m. at the Dedham Hilton Hotel.

This year's event honorees include: The Voice of Boston Bruins Hockey, Fred Cusick; TV pioneer, host, interviewer and innovator Bill Hahn; the nation's first nightly news cultural reporter and women's movement trailblazer Sonya Hamlin; television news journalist John Henning; legendary rock radio deejay and activist Charles Laquidara; public affairs director, news director and host Don Latulippe; 48-year WBZ personality Dave Maynard; radio manager and multi-station CEO Allan Roberts; host, newswoman and executive editor of WGBH TV's "Greater Boston," Emily Rooney; radio voice of the New England Patriots and morning sports anchor on WBZ radio, Gil Santos; broadcast consultant and radio station owner Al Tanger; and classical, jazz host Len Zola.

Deceased honorees include legendary sportscasters Don Gillis and Curt Gowdy; TV personality Connie Jameson; WBZ-TV's first news anchor Arch MacDonald; the hilarious Major Mudd Show host Ed McDonnell (Major Mudd); radio personality, Boston Herald columnist and socialite Marjorie Mills; one of the great personalities of Boston radio for more than 50 years, Norm Nathan; and former General Manager and Executive Vice President of radio station WHDH AM William "Bill" McGrath.

In addition, a "Special Recognition Award" will be given to Al Sprague in honor of his long service as President of the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association.

"Massachusetts has a long and distinguished history in the development of electronic communication," said Arthur J. Singer, President of the Hall of Fame. Through these annual inductions, the permanent exhibit at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, our archives and an active website now being launched with this announcement, the work of the people who have provided all of us with so much information and entertainment will be honored and made available to the public."

Massasoit Community College is the location of the permanent Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame exhibit.

The Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame is an incorporated 501(c)3 organization and has an eighteen-member Board of Directors, consisting primarily of broadcasters and other media professionals. Officials of Massasoit Community College oversee all activities of the organization.

Boston Symphony Orchestra Announces New Season

The "Boston Symphony Orchestra's 2009-2010 Season" at Symphony Hall is highlighted by fifteen programs under the leadership of Music Director James Levine, reflecting a major presence with the orchestra in a wide range of repertoire, from treasured classics to world premieres.

The season begins on Wednesday, September 23 with an "Opening Night at Symphony Gala" featuring the world premiere of John Williams' "On Willows and Birches" for harp and orchestra, written for and performed by BSO principal harpist Ann Hobson Pilot; Debussy's shimmering "La Mer"; and Chopin's "Piano Concerto No. 2," with Evgeny Kissin as soloist.

In keeping with the orchestra's historic reputation for performances of the great French orchestral repertoire, Levine and the orchestra also perform masterpieces by Ravel, Berlioz, and Debussy throughout the season.

Dining at the Boston Public Library

The Catered Affair has joined in partnership with the Boston Public Library to oversee operation of the two restaurants located at the BPL in Copley Square. The Map Room Café and The Courtyard Restaurant, both located on the first floor of the McKim building, offer two new exciting dining venues in the heart of Boston's Back Bay.

The Courtyard Restaurant, aptly named for it location adjacent to the Central Library's Italianate Courtyard, offers luncheon dining, as well as afternoon tea service. It is open Monday through Friday from 11:30-2:30 p.m. for lunch. Tea is served from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

The Map Room Café offers a more casual dining opportunity. Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, The Map Room Café is a perfect breakfast spot or a place to grab a casual lunch or snack.
