| The Scene In and Around Boston . . . By Hilda M. Morrill March 28, 2008
This week the Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) completed its well-received production of Donizetti's charming comedy "L'elisir d'amore" (The Elixir of Love) at the Citi Shubert Theatre. Among related events sponsored by the BLO was a "Soiree d'amore," which was held in February at a private residence on Commonwealth Avenue, Boston. Billed as "an enticing cocktail party for young professionals," the event was a benefit for the Fund for Emerging Artists. Hosted by Ms. Jane L. Roy, the party was co-chaired by BLO's BRAVO Advisory Group. Building on the sold-out success of last November's "Bravo Bohème" event for first-time opera-goers, this new event helped guests satisfy their senses with dazzling duets by young artists of the BLO, delectable hors d'oeuvres and "restorative" elixir-themed cocktails. The next BLO production is Mozart's comic opera, "The Abduction from the Seraglio," which runs from April 25-May 6. For tickets and more information about the BLO and its programs, be sure to visit www.blo.org.
Dana Bisbee Appointed Director of Development Former society columnist and noted photographer Dana Bisbee is no longer writing about fund raising. In fact, he is fund raising. Which means, in an ironic way, that he's become the person he used to write about. We were delighted to find out recently that Dana is the new Director of Development for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC). Congratulations and Best Wishes, Dana! We look forward to writing about the MSPCC's upcoming benefit events.
Event to Benefit the Paul Sullivan Foundation On Wednesday, April 9 we are invited to a benefit celebrating the Life and Legacy of the late Paul Sullivan, noted WBZ-AM (1030) radio host. The event will raise money for the Paul Sullivan Foundation, which benefits education and health-care causes. Mr. Sullivan died of cancer last fall. The event takes place at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a reception, followed by dinner and a show. For tickets and more information, visit www.paulsullivanfoundation.org.
