The new Frank Sinatra stamp was unveiled at Boston City Hall on June 3. During the ceremonies Boston Mayor Thomas Menino recounted how Sinatra's rendition of "My Way" played in the background when he was named Acting Mayor, back in July of 1993. Menino is Boston's first Italian-American Mayor. Ron Della Chiesa, a noted Sinatra expert and the popular host of "Strictly Sinatra," which is heard on WPLM 99.1 FM radio every Saturday evening, was the master of ceremonies. Incidentally, it's possible to enjoy Ole Blue Eyes' melodies and Ron Della Chiesa's Sinatra anecdotes 24 hours a day by visiting www.musicnotnoise.com. Goody Goody!
Vincent's Nightclub Celebrates 22nd Anniversary It doesn't seem possible that Vincent's Nightclub in Randolph recently celebrated its 22nd Anniversary. The Lombardo family annually has hosted three charities at this Gala Ball, when they generously underwrite 100% of the evening's cost - including all entertainment, food and beverages. Guests get to write a check directly to the charity of their choice. This year the following non-profit organizations were the designated lucky recipients: The Turner Free Library of Randolph; the Wayland to Waveland/Mission to Mississippi organization; and Zumix in East Boston, which "gets kids off the streets and improves their lives through music." Lombardo's famous International Buffets were set up throughout the ballroom, so that guests could enjoy delicious entrees, while an open bar and champagne station added to the festivities. Then it was back to the nightclub, where the evening's entertainment featured the talented Frank Sinatra impersonator Michael Dutra and the Strictly Sinatra Quartet. An incredible dessert buffet topped everything off. A sweet ending to a perfect evening for sure! Congratulations and Best Wishes all around!
Taj Boston Celebrates at Myopia and On the Roof On Sunday, June 22, the "2nd Annual Taj Boston Cup" will take place at the Myopia Polo Club in Hamilton. The festivities include a champagne luncheon in the VIP Pavilion, where polo players will join the guests to introduce "the sport of kings." Taj Boston celebrates the 120th season of summer polo matches as a sponsor each Sunday through October 5 on the oldest polo grounds in the United States, which opened in 1888. Taj Boston unfurled its flag over the legendary 1927 building at the corner of fashionable Newbury Street and the Public Garden in January 2007. In keeping with the polo traditions in India and the polo sponsorship of Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, Taj Boston sponsored the first Taj Boston Cup polo match last summer. David Gibbons, General Manager, Taj Boston, will throw out the ball and present the Taj Boston Cup to the winning polo team as well as a special recognition for the Best Playing Pony. Throughout the season, the Taj Boston Myopia Polo Package will offer a unique summer experience including deluxe accommodations, a gourmet tailgate luncheon with chauffeured sedan transportation and dinner in The Café. For inquiries or reservations, please call 877-482-5267 or visit www.tajhotels.com/boston. Incidentally, this summer season the public is invited to dine and dance at the Taj Boston Supper Club on The Roof. Throughout the year The Roof is the exclusive setting for special private events, but on a few evenings the dramatic view of Boston's skyline will be shared with the public. The Roof on the 17th floor of the landmark 1927 building was the center of Boston's summer social scene in the Big Band Era of the 1930's and 1940's. The Roof opened in 1933, and the music of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey and Eddie Duchin filled the air. The summer social whirl and live radio broadcasts continued until 1946. As the cityscape of Boston changes from sunset to the evening's twinkling skyline, guests can enjoy the music of the Tom LaMark five-piece orchestra setting the mood in the comfort of the climate-controlled venue. The special dates are Fridays, July 11 and 25; August 15 and 29; September 12 and 26 and October 3. The Taj Boston Supper Club on The Roof begins at 7 p.m., and dancing is from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. A dinner buffet is available for an additional fee. Cocktails and wine will be available. For reservations or more information, please call 617-598-5255. Attire is evening elegance, and jackets are required for the gentlemen. The Taj Boston Supper Club on The Roof Package encourages you to continue the festivities into the weekend, subject to availability on the Thursday before and the night of the event. Please call 877-482-5267, contact your travel professional, or visit www.tajhotels.com to make the package reservation. Enjoy! |
