Welcome First Day of Fall at "RiverSing" on the Charles River On Sunday, September 21, we are all invited to celebrate the first day of fall with song, puppetry, saxophones and brass bands as the noted Revels and the Charles River Conservancy present the 5th annual "RiverSing: Bridging the Charles with Voice and Light." Perched atop the Weeks Footbridge (near DeWolf Street and Memorial Drive), a massed chorus led by Revels music director George Emlen and giant puppets will join voices along the riverbank in songs of the season. A saxophone trio and strolling musicians will add additional atmosphere to this special autumnal equinox celebration. Picnics are encouraged. Participants will gather at 5 p.m. in Winthrop Square in Cambridge for some early entertainment, then march in the Grand Processional down to the river. The singing will last until approximately 7:30 p.m. "RiverSing" is free and open to the public. About Revels and the Charles River Conservancy: Revels is the producer of The Christmas Revels in Cambridge and SummersDay Revels, along with Friends of Fort Point Channel, in Boston. The Charles River Conservancy is a non-profit civic organization dedicated to the preservation of the Charles River and its parklands. For more information, call 617-972-8300 or visit www.revels.org.
Terezin Chamber Music Foundation Gala Fundraiser at Colonnade Hotel On Monday, September 22, The Terezin Chamber Music Foundation (TCMF) will host a gala fundraiser at the Colonnade Hotel, Boston. The event will feature a piano performance by pianist Simone Dinnerstein, and a unique improvisational pairing of artist Jim Schantz and the Hawthorne String Quartet (HSQ). The evening will begin with a buffet and wine reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performances at 7:30 p.m., concluding with a dessert reception with the artists. Terezin was the WWII camp where the Nazis kept the most artistic prisoners as propaganda showpieces for international visitors. Among the prisoners was composer and TCMF board member Hans Krása, whose string quartet will form the basis for the improvisational collaboration between Schantz and the HSQ. "The evening will be a celebration of creativity - both in a Terezin and contemporary context," says TCMF founding director Mark Ludwig. "TCMF supports the emerging voices of our time in memory of those who were silenced." Tickets can be purchased by calling 857-222-TCMF (8263). For more information about TCMF programs, please visit www.terezinmusic.org. Enjoy! |
