The legendary Chuck Berry, the "Father of Rock & Roll," headlines the "First Annual Rock & Roll SUPERGROUP Benefit Concert" for the non-profit organization, Right Turn, on Sunday, April 13, at the Berklee Performance Center beginning at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The 81-year-old Berry is famous for hits such as "Johnny B. Goode," "Maybelline," "Roll Over, Beethoven!" and "Memphis," to name just a few. He will perform with members of the SUPERGROUP, a group of rockers together on stage for the first time just for this special concert event. Ernie and The Automatics will open the concert and there will be several surprise guests making an appearance to show their support for Right Turn. SUPERGROUP includes keyboardist Chuck Leavell and saxophonist Tim Ries of The Rolling Stones; drummer Simon Kirke of Bad Company; drummer Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers; bassist John Conte of Crown Jewels; guitarist Ricky Byrd, formerly of Joan Jett and The Blackhearts; guitarist Barry Goudreau, formerly of Boston; guitarist Marc Orrell, formerly of The Dropkick Murphys; and guitarist and vocalist Kate Taylor. Based in Arlington, MA, Right Turn was founded in 2003 by Woody Giessmann, the drummer for the rock band The Del Fuegos, after he lost several friends to drug and alcohol use. Right Turn's mission is to provide substance abuse and mental health treatment to artists, entertainers, their families, and anyone who would benefit from hope, health, and creativity on the road to recovery. "Taste of the Nation" at Hynes Convention Center on Thursday, April 10 Celebrating their 20th year, "Taste of the Nation" is one the premier food and wine events in Boston. Handbags of Vanessa Williams and Myra Kraft to be Auctioned for the Homeless WCVB-TV's Susan Wornick and Gail Huff will emcee "What's In A Bag," a benefit luncheon and auction taking place on Thursday, April 17 at the Boston Harbor Hotel beginning at noon. Designer handbags as well as bags from the personal collections of local and national celebrities, such as Vanessa Williams, Myra Kraft and Mish Michaels, will be available for bids during silent and live auctions. The Loomers to Perform at Café 939 "Executive Sessions," a new concert series that showcases bands whose members include Boston-area CEOs and corporate executives, will kick-off with folk-rockers The Loomers on Thursday, April 17 at Café 939 beginning at 8 p.m. Cafe 939, Berklee College of Music's new all-ages, student-run coffee house and music venue, is located at 939 Boylston Street, and is wheelchair accessible. "Executive Sessions" will run several Thursday evenings from April 17 through early summer. Upcoming shows include Ernie and the Automatics, featuring Ernie Boch Jr., CEO and President, Subaru of New England, Inc. (May 15); and The Limitations, with Jim Januzzi, director, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Mass General Hospital (May 22). All proceeds from the "Executive Sessions" series will benefit Berklee's scholarship programs.
