Christmas Revels Auditions Scheduled
Unbelievably, the holiday season will be here before we know it. Adult chorus auditions for the “2007 Christmas Revels” will take place on Monday, September 10 and Tuesday, September 11 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. John's Church, 80 Mt. Auburn St., in Watertown.
The following is information we received: “… We are planning the 37th annual Christmas Revels and our 18 performances in Sanders Theatre at Harvard University in Cambridge.
“If you would like to join us as a member of this year’s adult volunteer chorus, we are looking for singers of all types…. Please prepare two contrasting songs to show off your voice to best advantage. Carols, hymns, folksongs, or composed songs are fine, pop songs are usually harder to pull off without the backing sound…. Wear comfortable clothes. In order to reflect the greater Boston Community, we are seeking to create a diverse chorus consisting of good singers of all ages, sizes and ancestries.”
No appointment is necessary as auditions will be on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, please contact Music Director George Emlen at 617-972-8300, ext. 24 or visit

New Host Announced for PBS’s Victory Garden
We were very interested to hear from Lisa Cerqueira of WGBH about the new host on “The Victory Garden.”
Laurie Donnelly, the Executive Producer of WGBH Lifestyle Productions, also shared the news: “While you're wondering what to do with that overabundance of zucchini and enjoying the flavor of your heirloom tomatoes, I wanted to let you know that we've been hard at work cultivating, watering, and pruning our own prize-winning specimen-season 32 of The Victory Garden on PBS!
“First, we're pleased to introduce our new host-internationally award-winning garden designer, horticulturist, and Australian television personality, Jamie Durie. Jamie's influence will be evident in segments on how to create exciting outdoor spaces and spend more time living in them; how to collect rainwater and reduce water waste; and how to translate inspiration found at larger gardens into great ideas for your own (smaller) space. I hope you'll find his clean, modern design sensibility as refreshing as I do.
“Also joining us this season is renowned chef, gardener, best-selling cookbook author and avid proponent of sustainable farming, Michel Nischan. His earth-to-table philosophy, on display at the Dressing Room-A Homegrown Restaurant-highlights respect for pure, local, natural ingredients and their intense flavors-will be featured in segments titled "Homegrown."
“And finally, we're excited to welcome back the familiar faces and sage advice of resident horticulturist and all-around gardening expert Kip Anderson, beloved gardening correspondent Paul Epsom, and lifestyle co-host Sissy Biggers. Together, they will provide simple, easy lessons to help today's busy gardeners make the most of their time outdoors-each and every weekend.”
Enjoy!
