The seventh annual “Summer Restaurant Week Boston” kicks off this coming Sunday. Actually, this year it will be a two-week, Sunday-through-Friday celebration—August 5 through 10, and again August 12 through 17.
Restaurant Week Boston is sponsored and presented by the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) and American Express, in partnership with the corporate sponsor – the JetBlue Card from American Express together with the Anthony Spinazzola Foundation.
The highly anticipated culinary event will feature more than one hundred and fifty five (155) of Greater Boston's finer restaurants, offering three course prix-fixe lunches and three-course dinners. Prices are per person and exclude beverages, tax and gratuity and offers cannot be combined with any other offer or promotion.
According to publicist Victoria Veilleux, “There are a ton of new things going on this year, including 21 new restaurants, eight of which are new to Boston.”
Among the new participants are: L'Espalier, Boston College Club, KO Prime, Burton Grill, Bouchee, Boston Public Meat (at Louis Boston), Mela, Artu, Davide, Maurizio's, Nebo, Red Sky, Vinoteca di Monica, Masona Grill, Bob's Southern Bistro, Mistral (hasn’t participated since 2004), Pho Republique, Sibling Rivalry, Sel de la Terre, Dante, and Zsquare.

“Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival”
Scheduled for August 8-11
We hear from Janine Fondon that Phylicia Rashad and Delroy Lindo will be participating during the “Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival,” from August 8-11.
The event includes panel discussions, workshops, films, parties, a wine tasting, Black Art Expo and film screenings that take place in Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. Now in its fifth year, the Festival continues to be a channel for up and coming and established independent filmmakers to showcase their films, network with their peers and industry executives.
Award winning actress Phylicia Rashad will showcase her film, “The Old Settler.” Actor Delroy Lindo, whose resume includes “Malcolm X” and “The Cider House Rules,” will participate in the "My Philosophy" panel discussion.

“Salute the Red Sox” Free Concert
at Hatch Shell on August 8
On Wednesday, August 8, at 7 p.m. The Boston Landmarks Orchestra presents “Salute the Red Sox” at The Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade on Storrow Drive in Boston. The free concert features an all American program with a special performance of Julian Wachner's "Lifting The Curse: A Story of the Red Sox," and other works by Copland, Sousa and John Williams.
The piece will be narrated by NECN's sports anchor Chris Collins. The free concert will also be performed on August 12 at 6 p.m. at Dorchester Park in Dorchester.

Horticultural Society’s “Marketplace Festival” Returns
The “11th Annual Massachusetts Marketplace Festival” takes place on Saturday, August 18, from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Elm Bank Horticultural Center in Wellesley.
Local fresh produce, specialty foods, plants, flowers, and crafts are showcased during this day of family fun. New England farmers, specialty food producers, and artisans will come together for the annual event. Live music, children's activities, and train rides add to the excitement.

Steve Tyrell to Participate in Fundraiser Concert in October
This year, Greater Boston's “17th annual Barry L. Price Rehabilitation Center Fundraiser and Concert” will feature singer Steve Tyrell on Saturday, October 27 at the Holiday Inn in Brookline. The Holiday Inn, located at 1200 Beacon Street, Brookline, is wheelchair accessible.
The gala event will also celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the founding of the Barry Price Center.
Funds raised will benefit the Center a non-profit organization with facilities located in West Newton, Brookline, and Dedham. The Center provides support services to adults with developmental disabilities.
Donors will enjoy the performance by Steve Tyrell at 6:30 p.m. in the hotel ballroom. A buffet dinner featuring fine cuisines of all kinds, caviar, cocktails, wines, coffees, and desserts will follow in the hotel lobby, beginning at 8:30 p.m. The rhythm & blues group The G Clefs will provide upbeat entertainment during the buffet.
